Will the Massage Hurt?2023-12-19T22:46:13+00:00

No. Techniques may be uncomfortable at times but it should only be in a pleasantly uncomfortable kind of way. Our clinic uses gentle, non-painful forms of modalities that often have a reputation for being painful.

Craniosacral Therapy is done using a pressure floating around the weight of a nickle.

Pain is subjective and everyone’s tolerance is different. We use a 0-10 scale where 0 is no pain at all and 10 is ‘too much’ pain. We always try and stay less than a 5 on your personal 0-10 scale. Occasionally we make enter 7 territory but rarely and never for long.

Effective massage and bodywork is not just about depth of pressure. It’s about using the right pressure at the proper angle in the location that can influence the body most dynamically. If you’re the type of person that wants your bodywork session to hurt, we won’t be a good fit for you.

How many session will it take to “fix” me?2023-12-19T22:15:22+00:00

First of all, you are not broken.

There is no way to answer this question. Every client has their own history, their own set of goals, and requires different treatment. So it varies. It’s important for you as a client to have appropriate and managed expectations regarding your treatment sessions. Treating a specific pain complaint may only require a session or two, where as working on postural, performance, or stress management goals would likely be an ongoing, consistent process.

Many people experience a great deal of relief after their very first visit, some don’t. Our therapists follow the “three visit rule.” If the client hasn’t experienced significant benefit from the bodywork or relief from pain within 3 visits, we refer to someone who may be a better fit for treatment.

Many clients book repeat sessions at an appropriate cadence between sessions to manage the buildup of life stresses.

What should I expect during my first session?2023-12-19T22:20:13+00:00

After a brief but thorough conversation about your areas of concerns and goals for treatment, we will immediately move into doing bodywork.

May I talk during my session?2023-12-18T22:44:46+00:00

Sure.

Many of us have been conditioned to feel uncomfortable with silence. Chatting can be helpful to initially relax.

You’re welcome to be quietly relax and enjoy the experience.

How will I feel after my session?2023-12-18T22:56:45+00:00

It varies person to person and session to session. You will probably feel more relaxed than when you came in. Many people have the experience of feeling taller or lighter, and experience increased range of motion. You may feel tired or sleepy, or you may be energized. Emotional responses are also possible.

Therapeutic Bodywork can leave you feeling a bit sore the next day but only mildly and similar to workout soreness. Keeping your body well hydrated will also help with any soreness you might experience.

Craniosacral work can leave you feeling very relaxed and peaceful. You may feel temporarily emotionally “raw” and vulnerable.

Why isn’t Yoga offered as a service?2023-12-19T21:40:11+00:00

Yoga is often viewed as simply a series of breathing and moving exercises. This is not the only path of Yoga.

Yoga aims to develop a quiet mind and inner directed awareness.

Bodywork and Energy work sessions facilitate a profound sense of relaxation in the body, often reaching a state resembling sleep. Yet, the recipient of such work often becomes aware without engaging in mental analysis—a meditative state.

Once this state is experienced, a desire often arises to return to it regularly. With time, reaching and sustaining this meditative state becomes increasingly accessible and enduring.

Barriers or partitions of awareness may begin to dissolve, providing clarity in perceiving one’s reality more distinctly.

So in essence, Yoga happens as a natural outcome of bodywork therapies.

How will my body be covered?2023-12-19T22:25:40+00:00

Your body will be draped (covered by a sheet, blanket, or towel) in a way that makes you feel safe and secure. The only time drapes will be removed is when that part of your body being treated or if you are wearing clothing.

For women, breasts will be securely covered at all times. For both genders, the genitals and gluteals will also be covered at all times.

With voluntary and informed consent, the gluteal (partially for both genders) and breast drapes (only partially for women) may be temporarily uncovered to perform therapeutic massage to those areas.

Your therapist will leave the room while you undress, get on the table, and under the drapes. We always knock on the door and ensure you are appropriately covered before we enter the treatment room.

If you’re wearing clothing during the session, drapes are optional.

Do I need to be completely undressed?2023-12-19T22:30:32+00:00

Feel free to undress to your comfort level during your sessions. You have complete control over your bodywork experience, including your choice of clothing. Whether you prefer complete nudity, wearing underpants or athletic shorts, or remaining fully clothed, any of these options are entirely acceptable. Strict draping practices are in place unless you opt to remain fully clothed.

Craniosacral Therapy and Energywork are done fully clothed in comfortable attire. Nothing constricting like jeans.
